History 

In just over forty years, the school has gone from a temporary residence with four student to a dedicated establishment with specialised facilities and over sixty students.

1981

The Blue Rose Special School is established by the Service Civil International (SCI) on a temporary premise with four students and one teacher.

1995

Dr. Hilarian Cooray and Mrs. Cooray donate land and the school moves to its permanent residence in the Cenral Province of Sri Lanka.

2006

Construction of the Blue Rose Training Centre is completed, consisting of a large auditorium, residential facilities, kitchen, dining hall and office complex.

2015

Opening of the Vocational Training Unit, which provides space for mature students over the age of eighteen to continue their education.

2016

The school acquires its first bus to provide students with accessible transport and greater access to educational facilities across Kandy.

2022

Dr. Athula Fernando and Mrs. Fernando donate four acres of land to start development on the Blue Rose Village Project.

Today

Today, the school has over sixty students supported by a principle, eight permanent teachers, four part-time instructors and a number of volunteers. The school continues to be managed by the Blue Rose Welfare Society which comprises of parents, teachers and well wishes.
